The Foundation renews its support of the Festival Agir pour le Vivant (August 2023, Arles) and is organizing three encounters “Creators facing Climate Emergency” as part of the “Conversations à ciel ouvert” cycle, available as audio podcasts on the website and on listening platforms.
How can we become one with the earth? How can we conceive of a body of water and earth whose relationship to the ecosystem is defined through creation?
Emmanuel Tibloux, Director of the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, and promoter of the Post-master Design des mondes ruraux, an ENSAD program in the Dordogne dedicated to the development of rural territories through design, talks to designer Samuel Tomatis, who is constantly pushing back the potential of algae, about a bio-design through which living beings, human and non-human, help and regulate each other in a reciprocal way.

Emmanuel Tibloux has been Director of the École des Arts Décoratifs since 2018, formerly Director of the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts de Lyon. An alumnus of the École normale supérieure de Fontenay-Saint-Cloud, he has directed the École supérieure d’art et de design de Saint-Etienne, the École régionale des beaux-arts de Valence and the Institut français de Bilbao. Emmanuel Tibloux’s project for the École des Arts Décoratifs takes into account the specific characteristics of this school of excellence, which welcomes over 800 students a year. In 2019, he initiated the plan for a “Transition School”, making the École des Arts Décoratifs the first higher education establishment to adopt an ecological transition plan. He is also the initiator of the Post-master Design des mondes ruraux, a delocalized program at ENSAD in Nontron, Dordogne.
Samuel Tomatis graduated in 2016 from ENSCI – Les Ateliers, following a diploma at the Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués. The young designer has a close relationship with science and ecology. His work oscillates between industrial design and ephemeral architecture. Seduced by the sea and the phenomenon of tides, his research revolves around the world of maritime resources, and seaweed in particular. He collaborates with a wide range of professionals, including scientists and craftsmen. Experimentation, working with materials and eco-design are at the heart of his approach.
Winner of numerous awards including the Bourse Agora pour le design, the Grand Prix de la Création de la ville de Paris and the Dezeen Awards, his work has been exhibited at the Villa Noailles, the Gent Design Museum, the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Maison&Objet in Japan and the Centre Pompidou. He is the winner of the Dialogues award of the Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l’Intelligence de la Main (2022).
