As part of the exhibition Kiki Smith, Inner Bodies, the Foundation invites the visual artist Karine Rougier to lead a drawing workshop for adults on the theme of animality and the fusion between animals and humans, a theme dear to Kiki Smith, highlighted by the selection of works presented in the exhibition until May 1, 2022.
Since the dawn of time, women (and men) have been given the names of animals of all kinds. This workshop aims at questioning yourself as represented with its animal totem. Through the medium of drawing and line, Karine Rougier will invite the participants to let their imaginations run wild in order to express the theme of the fusion between animals and humans. This workshop is based on ways of thinking about contact, the link, the exchange with animals.
In her work, Kiki Smith opens the dialogue between human and animal flesh, we will try to echo this idea.
Applied art, popular art, vernacular art and crafts are the universes and vocabularies that will be used during this creative time.
Born in Malta in 1982, Karine Rougier lives and works in Marseille. After studying at the Arts Décoratifs de Genève and the École Supérieure d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence, Karine Rougier developed a practice of drawing and oil painting on wood. Her work is inspired by her travels, her underwater peregrinations in the Mediterranean and her desire to believe in the wonderful. She represented Malta at the Venice Biennale in 2017.
